Well this is the first Fiesta Junior race of 2013 and what a cracker.JJ was going to try his hardest to do well this year and use his experience that he gained last year. With new tyres for this year it was not going to be easy, The tyres are now a tread-ed race tyre from Dunlop, last year was a Dunlop Slick.

First touch of the track was Saturday Morning with a 15 minute Free Practice, JJ was trying out the new tyres and finding his way round the circuit. Last time JJ had turned a wheel on this track was when he won here last year, he has done no testing here at Rockinghamin 2013.JJ laied in second place after free practice by .005 of a second.

Saturday afternoon was into Qualifying. JJ had made some adjustment to the car between Free practice and qualifying. At the end of Qualifying saw JJ on Pole Position by .513 of a second and was still trying to find the grip with his new tyres.

Sunday morning here we go with race 1. JJ on Pole and 1 championship point in the bag, looking good “Oh No”  lights out and JJ bogged down all the way to last. oil slick on the track cement dust to dry it up, car weaving around in front it was going to be hard for JJ to get back in front. JJ with his terrier like racing determination fought his way through the field a little cuddle with Alfonso on the way, by 1/2 race distance JJ was up to second, with his cool attitude slid past to take the lead, now in front JJ got the hammer down and won by 9 seconds in a 15 minute race.

On to race 2. A lovely cold sunny afternoon and JJ on pole again. This time JJ got away clean with a good start, lead into turn one, he controlled the race, just took it calmly and made sure not to loose the lead. Car handling well JJ was able to start putting in quick lap times, with his superb driving JJ won the race by 18 seconds and his slowest lap time of the race was quicker than all the other competitors

JJ goes to round 2, Snetterton, as championship leader with 16 points for race win and 1 point for pole and 1 point for fastest lap x 2 so 2 x 18 = 36 points. This is the maximum points score. No one has ever done this in Fiesta Juniors. Second place in the championship points are 14 + 13 = 27. JJ has a 9 point lead

This was truly an amazing performance by such a young man. The tyres would be 2-21/2 or even more seconds a lap slower than a slick. last years time was 1.46.2 on slicks. JJ time in 2013 was 1.46.8. So JJ slick tyre time could have been  1.44.3 or faster ( who knows ) this would have put him sixth on the grid anyway, in the senior Fiesta Race.
